Delego Office Building Restoration – Works Well Underway!

 In Delego insights

At Delego we are used to reporting on our clients’ construction projects – however this time, it’s our very own!

Purchased in December last year, ‘The Temperance Club’ building in the village of Cliffe, Kent, is all that remains of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, first constructed in 1897.

Now 127 years later, after sitting derelict and in disrepair for many years (despite its successful stint as home to various billiard/pool teams throughout the decades), it is about to undergo a full restoration makeover, breathing new life into the building and creating a new home for Delego HQ.

As well as becoming our new offices once it is complete, the building will also act as a community shared workspace, with desk spaces available to local villagers who may be working remotely in isolation and want to experience interaction with other professionals on a daily basis. The building will also house a self-contained private office/room, available for rent to possibly a local counsellor, therapist or beauty technician.

We feel this option for a shared workspace is particularly important in today’s post-covid era, particularly in rural areas, where many employees and self-employed professionals have been working alone within their spare rooms/kitchens/dining tables for years now, as many businesses have chosen to favour remote working and downsize or even abolish their office leases after the pandemic.

Our restoration programme will see this 630sqft Victorian structure completely revitalised, with the introduction of services and drainage, damp proofing, replacement insulated roof, complete re-pointing and replacement of damaged brickwork, internal wall insulation and dry lining, new window and door installations and entire internal fit-out project, that will realise this building’s potential as a modern co-working office space.

Scaffolding erection and brickwork cleaning is well underway, with the majority of the works taking place over the summer months, and an aspiration for us to move in during October/November.

We are absolutely buzzing with excitement over this adventure, and will be sharing works updates as things progress.
